What does “Peko” mean?

TOC

Definition

“Peko” is a catchphrase used by Usada Pekora, a third-generation VTuber from hololive. She often greets her viewers with “Konpeko” (hello, peko) and frequently adds “peko” at the end of her sentences as a speech quirk. As Pekora’s popularity grew, many fans began to imitate her way of speaking, and “peko” became one of her most recognizable trademarks.

In 2025, renowned game creator Hideo Kojima released the sequel to Death Stranding. As a big fan of Usada Pekora, he invited her to appear in the game as an NPC. A special item called the “Wild Rabbit Hat” was also included—when worn, the character would repeatedly say “peko,” just like in the video below. This meme-like feature sparked lively discussion among gamers in both Japan and the West, pushing the word “peko” to new heights of recognition.
